I have not had a very enjoyable week but the worst is over so I can post without sounding like I'm having a pity party.  I had a cavity that was between my lower left wisdom tooth and the molar next to it.  My wisdom tooth cracked and of course abscessed.  Not only was there pain in my tooth, the infection spread and put an agonizing amount of pressure on my ear drum.  At the start of the week, I was hurting but thought that I could tough it out.  By Wednesday, I was in agony.  I went into work on Thursday because that's the day of the week where certain manager duties needed to be done and I hated to let things slide.  Friday, I called into work so I could find a dentist.

Would you believe that every dentist in the area was closed that day?  I spent a looooong weekend trying not to scream as I waited for Monday.  I found a dentist on Monday who said that they could see me right away.  By this time, I hurt so badly that I had been unable to sleep (besides 15 minute naps every three to four hours) for three days.  The dentist who saw me said that the reason that I was in so much pain was because I had a nerve exposed.  In addition to writing me scripts for antibiotics and pain pills, he gave me a temporary filling to cover up the nerve.  The filling alone cut my pain down by about 75%.

Since both teeth needed to come out and the wisdom tooth required surgical extraction, I had to wait until today when the oral surgeon was in to get them out.  But with the antibiotics, pain meds and that filling, the wait was bearable and I was able to sleep.  I dealt with a six inch, surgical incision in my abdomen far more easily than this tooth.

Today, the nice oral surgeon lady numbed me up and pulled the troublemakers.  Since my mouth is so small, the roots of my wisdom tooth grew in all curved.  She showed me the odd looking rebel tooth and I almost asked to keep it.  I have no clue why, it's not like I could to anything with it except perhaps, to put it under my pillow for the Tooth Frog.  You heard me, the Tooth Frog.  While other children got visited by the Tooth Fairy who left them money under their pillows, I got visits from the Tooth Frog who left me packets of oatmeal and cans of cat food.  I think events like that are what made me into the kind of person I am today.

So here I am sitting with a mouthful of gauze wondering how I should spend the rest of my day.  I'm not really hurting but I'm hungry.  I'm not sure if I can eat becauseI still can't feel my lips.  I elected not to return to work so my afternoon is free.  I have only one more day to work and then I will be on vacation for a week.  Woot!  I am so looking forward to a week of not having to do anything.
